
Heather Skeens, M.D. specializes in the treatment of corneal and external diseases. She is Board Certified and experienced in the most advanced cornea related procedures, such as ocular surface stem cell transplantation, DSEK, and corneal transplantation. She has performed close to 3,000 cataract procedures and nearly 500 various types of corneal transplants. She is also one of the only surgeons in the United States doing stem cell transplantation and Keratoprosthesis.
Dr. Skeens practiced at the University of South Carolina, Storm Eye Institute, in Charleston, SC prior to joining AIO. She completed her Cornea Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Eye Institute and her ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University. Dr. Skeens earned her medical degree at Marshall University, where she also received the Marshall University School of Medicine Achievement Award. Dr. Skeens received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky where she was a Summa Cum Laude Graduate.
Dr. Skeens is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Cornea Society, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and American Medical Association.
